Śiva-nāmānukīrtana-prastāvaḥ
Prologue to the praise of Śiva and the Upamanyu testimony
The verse emphasizes ethical responsiveness: when one is rightly urged, one should act with integrity—seeking proper leave and committing to fulfill a legitimate request. It underscores the dharmic value of honoring one’s word (vacana) and acting in accordance with respectful social order.
Vāsudeva, having been prompted by the devī, addresses the queen respectfully, asks permission to depart, and promises to carry out her request. The moment frames action as both consent-based (seeking anujñā) and duty-bound (kariṣye vacanaṃ tava).
