Umā’s Inquiry and the Manifestation of the Third Eye (उमा–प्रश्नः तृतीयनेत्रोत्पत्तिः)
यदन्नं नाभिजानाति यद् भोज्यं नाभिनन्दति । भक्ष्यं वा यदि वा लेहां तत्सव॑ वर्जयाम्यहम्
yad annaṃ nābhijānāti yad bhojyaṃ nābhinandati | bhakṣyaṃ vā yadi vā lehyaṃ tat sarvaṃ varjayāmy aham ||
Wika ni Bhishma: “Anumang pagkain na hindi kinikilalang nararapat tanggapin ng aking panginoon, at anumang hindi niya sinasang-ayunan—maging yaong nginunguya, kinakain, o nililimas—lahat ng iyon ay tinalikuran ko rin.”
भीष्म उवाच
Ethical self-discipline expressed through restraint in consumption: one should avoid what is deemed improper and cultivate alignment with a principled standard, showing loyalty and regulated appetite rather than indulgence.
Bhishma quotes a speaker describing her conduct in relation to her husband/master: she mirrors his judgments about what foods are acceptable, rejecting any items he would not accept or enjoy—covering all categories of edibles (chewed, eaten, licked).
