“किसीकी चुगली नहीं खाती थी। चुगली करना मेरे मनको बिलकुल नहीं भाता था। मैं घरका दरवाजा छोड़कर अन्यत्र नहीं खड़ी होती और देरतक किसीसे बात नहीं करती थी
kasyāpi cughalī na khāditavatī | cughalī kartum mama manasi bilkula na rocate sma | ahaṁ gṛhasya dvāraṁ tyaktvā anyatra na tiṣṭhāmi sma, na ca dīrghakālaṁ kasyacid saha sambhāṣaṇaṁ karomi sma |
Wika ni Bhishma: “Hindi ako kailanman nanira ng puri ng sinuman. Lubhang kasuklam-suklam sa aking loob ang ugaling magdala ng kuwento at manira sa likuran. Hindi ako naglalagi sa labas, lumalayo sa pintuan ng bahay, at hindi rin ako nakikipag-usap nang matagal kaninuman.”
भीष्म उवाच
The verse emphasizes ethical restraint in speech and social conduct: one should avoid slander and tale-bearing, speak only as needed, and maintain modest, disciplined behavior rather than seeking idle talk.
Bhishma is describing exemplary personal conduct—especially the avoidance of gossip and unnecessary socializing—as part of a broader instruction on dharma and proper behavior.
