Umā’s Inquiry and the Manifestation of the Third Eye (उमा–प्रश्नः तृतीयनेत्रोत्पत्तिः)
देवतानां पितृणां च ब्राह्मणानां च पूजने । अप्रमत्ता सदा युक्ता श्वश्रूश्वशुरवर्तिनी,“मैं सदा सास-ससुरकी आज्ञामें रहती और देवता, पितर तथा ब्राह्मणोंकी पूजामें सदा सावधान होकर संलग्न रहती थी
devatānāṁ pitṝṇāṁ ca brāhmaṇānāṁ ca pūjane | apramattā sadā yuktā śvaśrūśvaśuravartinī ||
Wika ni Bhishma: “Sa pagsamba sa mga diyos, sa mga ninuno, at sa mga Brahmana, ako’y laging maingat at palagiang nakatuon; at namuhay akong masunurin sa aking biyenan na babae at biyenan na lalaki, tapat na sumusunod sa kanilang kalooban.”
भीष्म उवाच
The verse teaches disciplined attentiveness (apramāda) in religious and ethical life: honoring gods, ancestors, and Brahmins through worship and service, while also upholding domestic dharma by obediently respecting and following the guidance of one’s elders (mother-in-law and father-in-law).
Bhishma is recounting a model of righteous conduct, describing a woman’s exemplary household and devotional behavior—steady worship of sacred recipients (devas, pitrs, Brahmins) and dutiful compliance with the authority of her in-laws—within his broader instruction on dharma in the Anushasana Parva.
