Chapter 74: Non-anger, Forbearance, and the Ethics of Residence

सिंहव्याप्रान्‌ वराहांश्न महिषांश्न॒ गजांस्तथा । बबन्ध वृक्षे बलवानाश्रमस्य समीपत:,देवताओंके बालक-सा प्रतीत होनेवाला वह तेजस्वी कुमार वहाँ शीघ्रतापूर्वक बढ़ने लगा। छ: वर्षकी अवस्थामें ही वह बलवान्‌ बालक कण्वके आश्रममें सिंहों, व्याप्रों, वराहों, भैंसों और हाथियोंको पकड़कर खींच लाता और आश्रमके समीपवर्ती वृक्षोंमें बाँध देता था

siṁhavyāghrān varāhāṁś ca mahiṣāṁś ca gajāṁs tathā | babandha vṛkṣe balavān āśramasya samīpataḥ ||

Wika ni Vaiśampāyana: Kahit bata pa lamang—ngunit maningning na parang nilalang na makalangit—mabilis na lumago ang kanyang lakas. Sa edad na anim na taon, hinuhuli niya ang mga leon, tigre, baboy-ramo, kalabaw at maging mga elepante, hinihila ang mga ito sa āśrama ni Kaṇva at itinatali sa mga punong malapit doon. Ipinakikita ng tagpong ito ang pambihirang lakas na halos lampas-tao na nagdudulot ng pagkamangha, at kasabay na nagpapahiwatig na ang ganitong kapangyarihan ay dapat gabayan ng pagpipigil at dharma sa loob ng disiplinang pang-āśrama.
