Chapter 74: Non-anger, Forbearance, and the Ethics of Residence
दन्तै: शुक्लै: शिखरिभि: सिंहसंहननो महान् | चक्राडकितकर: श्रीमान् महामूर्था महाबल:,वह सफेद और नुकीले दाँतोंसे शोभा पा रहा था। उसके शरीरका गठन सिंहके समान था। वह ऊँचे कदका था। उसके हाथोंमें चक्रके चिह्न थे। वह अदभुत शोभासे सम्पन्न, विशाल मस्तकवाला और महान् बलवान था
dantaiḥ śuklaiḥ śikharibhiḥ siṁhasaṁhanano mahān | cakrāṅkitakaraḥ śrīmān mahāmūrdhā mahābalaḥ ||
Wika ni Vaiśampāyana: Siya’y napapalamutian ng mapuputi at matutulis na ngipin na wari’y mga tuktok ng bundok. Malaki at siksik ang kanyang pangangatawan, leonino ang tikas at lakas. May tatak ng cakra sa kanyang mga kamay, at siya’y nagniningning sa mapalad na karilagan—malaki ang ulo at may napakalakas na kapangyarihan.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights the traditional epic idea that inner worth and destiny are often signaled through outward auspicious marks (lakṣaṇa): strength, radiance, and sacred emblems (like the cakra-mark) indicate a person fit for great responsibility and protection of dharma.
Vaiśampāyana is describing a remarkable figure’s physical and auspicious characteristics—white sharp teeth, lion-like build, cakra-marked hands, splendor, a large head, and great strength—using epic conventions to signal extraordinary status.
