Duḥṣantasya Vana-praveśaḥ

King Duḥṣanta’s Entry into the Forest Hunt

मीनभावमनुप्राप्ता बभूव यमुनाचरी । श्येनपादपरि भ्रष्ट तद्‌ वीर्यमथ वासवम्‌

mīna-bhāvam anuprāptā babhūva yamunā-carī | śyena-pāda-pari-bhraṣṭaṃ tad vīryam atha vāsavam |

Sinabi ni Vaiśampāyana: Ang apsaras na naninirahan sa Yamunā, dahil sa sumpa, ay napasailalim sa kalagayang isda. Noon, ang makapangyarihang binhi—na nalaglag mula sa mga kuko ng lawin—ay bumagsak sa tubig ng Yamunā. Si Adrikā na nasa anyong isda ay mabilis na lumapit at nilunok ang nahulog na lakas. Nang dumating ang ikasampung buwan, nahuli ng mga mangingisda ang isdang iyon sa lambat; hinati nila ang tiyan at inilabas ang isang batang babae at isang batang lalaki. Ipinakikita ng pangyayaring ito na ang kapanganakan at lahi ay hinuhubog hindi lamang ng hangarin ng tao, kundi ng tadhana, ng pagkilos ng mga diyos, at ng bunga ng mga naunang gawa (gaya ng sumpa), habang patuloy na umuusad ang salaysay ng Kuru sa landas ng dharma.
