अध्याय ३५ — वासुकिचिन्ता-शमनम्
Vāsuki’s Anxiety and Brahmā’s Confirmation
पन्नगानां तु नामानि न कीर्तयसि सूतज । प्राधान्येनापि नामानि श्रोतुमिच्छामहे वयम्,किंतु सूतपुत्र! आप सर्पोके नाम नहीं बता रहे हैं। यदि सबका नाम बताना सम्भव न हो, तो उनमें जो मुख्य-मुख्य सर्प हैं, उन्हींके नाम हम सुनना चाहते हैं
pannagānāṃ tu nāmāni na kīrtayasi sūtaja | prādhānyenāpi nāmāni śrotum icchāmahe vayam ||
Wika ni Śaunaka: “O anak ng Sūta, hindi mo binabanggit ang mga pangalan ng mga nāga. Kahit hindi man maisa-isa ang lahat, nais naming marinig man lamang ang mga pangunahing pangalan sa kanila.”
शौनक उवाच
The verse highlights the discipline of careful transmission: listeners (the sages) request a structured account—if exhaustive detail is impractical, at least the principal items should be preserved and communicated.
In the Naimiṣa forest dialogue-frame, Śaunaka questions Sauti for omitting the serpents’ names and asks him to recite at least the chief serpents, indicating the sages’ interest in key lineages and notable figures.
