Vāsuki’s Anxiety and Brahmā’s Confirmation
वरप्रदानं भर्त्रां च कद्रूविनतयोस्तथा । नामनी चैव ते प्रोक्ते पक्षिणोर्वैनतेययो:,कद्ू और विनताको उनके पति कश्यपजीसे जो वर मिले थे, वह कथा भी कह सुनायी तथा विनताके जो दोनों पुत्र पक्षीरूपमें प्रकट हुए थे, उनके नाम भी आपने बताये हैं
varapradānaṃ bhartrāṃ ca kadrū-vinatayoḥ tathā | nāmanī caiva te prokte pakṣiṇor vainateyayoḥ ||
“Naikuwento mo rin ang pagkakaloob ng mga biyaya ng kanilang asawa na si Kaśyapa kina Kadrū at Vinatā; at nabanggit mo ang mga pangalan ng dalawang anak ni Vinatā na isinilang sa anyong ibon. Ngayon, ipagpatuloy mo ang salaysay ayon sa wastong pagkakasunod.”
शौनक उवाच
The verse highlights careful transmission of tradition: a listener confirms what has been narrated (boons and names) and prompts the storyteller to proceed in order. Ethically, it underscores that boons (vara) are powerful causes whose outcomes shape lineages and future events, so they must be recounted precisely.
Śaunaka, the chief listener in the Naimiṣa forest dialogue, notes that the narrator has already described Kaśyapa’s boons to Kadrū and Vinatā and has named Vinatā’s two bird-sons (Garuḍa and Aruṇa). He is effectively requesting the continuation of the story from that point.
