समन्तपञ्चक-आख्यानम् तथा अक्षौहिणी-प्रमाणनिर्णयः

Samantapañcaka Narrative and the Measure of an Akṣauhiṇī

त॑ दुष्टभावं॑ विज्ञाय व्यासस्यागमन द्रुतम्‌ । निर्याणप्रतिषेधश्व सुरभ्याख्यानमेव च,दुर्योधनके इस दूषित भावको जानकर महर्षि व्यास झटपट वहाँ आ पहुँचे और उन्होंने दुर्योधनकी यात्राका निषेध कर दिया। इसी प्रसंगमें सुरभिका आख्यान भी है

taṁ duṣṭabhāvaṁ vijñāya vyāsasyāgamanaṁ drutam | niryāṇa-pratiṣedhaś ca surabhy-ākhyānam eva ca ||

Nang maunawaan ang maruming hangarin ni Duryodhana, nagmadaling dumating sa pook na iyon ang pantas na si Vyāsa. Ipinagbawal niya kay Duryodhana ang pag-alis sa paglalakbay; at sa kaparehong salaysay ay isinasalaysay rin ang pangyayari (ākhyāna) tungkol kay Surabhī—na nagpapakita kung paanong ang payo ng marurunong ay pumipigil sa mapanirang pasya bago ito maging ganap na kasalanan.
