Amṛta-Pāna, Rāhu’s Detection, and the Sudarśana Intervention (अमृतपान-राहुप्रकाशन-सुदर्शनप्रयोगः)
शौनक उवाच कथं तदमृतं देवैर्मथितं क्व च शंस मे । यत्र जज्ञे महावीर्य: सो5श्वराजो महाद्युति:,शौनकजीने पूछा--सूतनन्दन! अब मुझे यह बताइये कि देवताओंने अमृत-मनन््थन किस प्रकार और किस स्थानपर किया था, जिसमें वह महान् बल-पराक्रमसे सम्पन्न और अत्यन्त तेजस्वी अश्वराज उच्चै:श्रवा प्रकट हुआ?
śaunaka uvāca | kathaṁ tad amṛtaṁ devair mathitaṁ kva ca śaṁsa me | yatra jajñe mahāvīryaḥ so 'śvarājo mahādyutiḥ ||
Tinanong ni Śaunaka: “O anak ng Sūta, sabihin mo sa akin kung paano hinalo ng mga diyos ang amṛta ng kawalang-kamatayan, at saang lugar ito ginawa—kung saan isinilang ang kabayong-hari na si Uccaiḥśravā, dakila ang lakas at nagliliyab ang ningning.”
शौनक उवाच
The verse models the dharmic method of learning: respectful inquiry into sacred history. By asking both the manner (katham) and the place (kva), Śaunaka emphasizes careful, complete understanding rather than vague belief.
Śaunaka requests Sūta to narrate the episode of the churning that produced amṛta, specifically asking for details of how and where it occurred, and noting that in that same event the radiant horse-king Uccaiḥśravā emerged.
