Pāṇḍu’s Gifts, Forest Residence, and Vidura’s Marriage
द्वितीयं कुरुवंशस्य राजानं दातुमहसि । “किंतु माताके दोषसे वह बालक अन्धा ही होगा।” व्यासजीकी यह बात सुनकर माताने कहा--“तपोधन! कुरुवंशका राजा अन्धा हो यह उचित नहीं है। अतः कुरुवंशके लिये दूसरा राजा दो, जो जातिभाइयों तथा समस्त कुलका संरक्षक और पिताका वंश बढ़ानेवाला हो” || १०-११ $ || स तथेति प्रतिज्ञाय निश्चक्राम महायशा:,महायशस्वी व्यासजी “तथास्तु” कहकर वहाँसे निकल गये
vaiśampāyana uvāca |
sa tatheti pratijñāya niścakrāma mahāyaśāḥ |
Sinabi ni Vaiśampāyana: “Kaya ipagkaloob mo sa angkan ng Kuru ang ikalawang hari.” At si Vyāsa na tanyag sa dangal ay nangakong, “Gayon nga,” at umalis mula roon.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights the ethical weight of royal succession: decisions about who should rule are treated as matters of dharma and communal welfare, and a sage’s promise (“tathāstu”) carries binding moral force that shapes history.
After hearing the request for an alternative heir for the Kuru line, Vyāsa agrees—saying “So be it”—makes a pledge to act accordingly, and then departs, signaling that the next events leading to the continuation of the dynasty will follow.
