Suta Goswami
It frames tapas (austerity) as the preparatory discipline that purifies the pasha (bondage) of the pashu (soul), making one fit for devotion to Pati (Shiva) and for the sanctifying power behind Linga-oriented worship.
By highlighting goddesses revered across the worlds through tapas, the verse implies Shiva-tattva as the supreme Pati whose Shakti manifests as revered divine powers; their disciplined tapas points to the path by which the pashu approaches the Lord through purification and grace.
Tapas—sustained austerity and vow-based discipline—aligned with a Pashupata-style emphasis on inner purification as a foundation for higher worship and realization.
