Lineage of Vyāsas, Division of the Veda, and Vāsudeva/Īśāna as the Veda-Known Supreme
Sūta (narrator) recounting the Purāṇic lineage to assembled sages
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
This verse does not directly teach Ātman-doctrine; it establishes ṛṣi-paramparā (lineage), a Purāṇic method for grounding later spiritual teachings in an authoritative transmission.
No specific yoga practice is described in this lineage verse; its role is to situate the tradition and teachers through whom disciplines like Pāśupata yoga and dharma-instructions are later conveyed in the Kurma Purana.
It does not explicitly mention Śiva–Viṣṇu unity; indirectly, by anchoring teachings in a common rishi lineage, the Purāṇa supports its broader synthesis where sectarian streams share a single Vedic–Purāṇic transmission.
