Jāmbavatī’s Vaiṣṇava-Ācāra: Grace, Sense-Consecration, and Pilgrimage to Śrīnivāsa on Veṅkaṭādri
Śrī Kṛṣṇa (as the divine narrator, identified with Lord Viṣṇu in Purāṇic discourse)
Concept: Hierarchy of spiritual qualities: Jāmbavatī’s eminence is linked to being ‘free’ (vihīnā) from certain fivefold traits associated with Rudra and other deities—suggesting a purity/guṇa-transcendence criterion.
Vedantic Theme: Guṇa-viveka and gradations of sattva leading toward proximity to Bhagavān; hints of guṇātīta ideal.
Application: Cultivate inner purity and reduce reactive traits (anger, pride, restlessness, etc. as interpreted ‘Rudra-like’ tendencies) to deepen devotion and discernment.
Primary Rasa: adbhuta
Secondary Rasa: shanta
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 3.23.2-4 (Lakṣmī-āveśa, nāma-prīti, and inquiry into Jāmbavatī’s worship)
It situates Jāmbavatī within Purāṇic cosmology and lineage, linking divine relationships to earlier cycles of creation (pūrvasarga) and reinforcing Kṛṣṇa’s role as a cosmic, not merely historical, figure.
The speaker is Kṛṣṇa/Vişṇu addressing Vīndra (Garuḍa), matching the common Purāṇic teaching mode where the deity explains cosmology and dharma to Garuḍa as the attentive listener.
Use it as a reminder to study dharma with a long view of life and time—seeing relationships, duties, and virtues within a broader spiritual and cosmic context rather than only immediate circumstances.
