Puṁsavana / Viṣṇu-vrata: Worship of Lakṣmī-Nārāyaṇa for Auspicious Progeny and Fortune
श्रीशुक उवाच शुक्ले मार्गशिरे पक्षे योषिद्भर्तुरनुज्ञया । आरभेत व्रतमिदं सार्वकामिकमादित: ॥ २ ॥ निशम्य मरुतां जन्म ब्राह्मणाननुमन्त्र्य च । स्नात्वा शुक्लदती शुक्ले वसीतालङ्कृताम्बरे । पूजयेत्प्रातराशात्प्राग्भगवन्तं श्रिया सह ॥ ३ ॥
śrī-śuka uvāca śukle mārgaśire pakṣe yoṣid bhartur anujñayā ārabheta vratam idaṁ sārva-kāmikam āditaḥ
Sinabi ni Śukadeva Gosvāmī: Sa unang araw ng maliwanag na kalahati ng buwan ng Mārgaśīrṣa (Agrahāyaṇa), sa pahintulot ng asawa, dapat simulan ng babae ang panatang ito ng pagtitika at bhakti na nakatutupad ng lahat ng hangarin. Bago sambahin si Panginoong Viṣṇu, pakinggan niya ang salaysay ng kapanganakan ng mga Marut; sa patnubay ng karapat-dapat na brāhmaṇa, sa umaga ay linisin ang ngipin, maligo, magsuot ng puting kasuotan at alahas, at bago mag-almusal ay sambahin si Bhagavān Viṣṇu kasama si Śrī Lakṣmī.
It says the vow should be begun in the bright fortnight of Mārgaśīrṣa, and a wife should commence it with her husband’s permission, starting properly from the outset.
Because the text is teaching household dharma—religious observances in family life are ideally performed in harmony, with mutual consent and support rather than conflict.
Begin spiritual commitments thoughtfully, at an auspicious time if possible, and practice them in a way that builds unity and cooperation within the family.
