Bharata Mahārāja’s Ideal Kingship and His Transition from Yajña to Exclusive Bhakti at Pulahāśrama
परोरज: सवितुर्जातवेदो देवस्य भर्गो मनसेदं जजान । सुरेतसाद: पुनराविश्य चष्टे हंसं गृध्राणं नृषद्रिङ्गिरामिम: ॥ १४ ॥
paro-rajaḥ savitur jāta-vedo devasya bhargo manasedaṁ jajāna suretasādaḥ punar āviśya caṣṭe haṁsaṁ gṛdhrāṇaṁ nṛṣad-riṅgirām imaḥ
“Ang Kataas-taasang Persona ng Diyos ay nasa dalisay na kabutihan. Pinapaliwanag Niya ang buong sansinukob at ipinagkakaloob ang mga pagpapala sa Kanyang mga deboto. Mula sa sarili Niyang espirituwal na kapangyarihan nilikha Niya ang mundong ito; at ayon sa Kanyang kalooban, pumasok Siya rito bilang Paramātmā at sa pamamagitan ng iba’t ibang śakti ay inaalalayan ang lahat ng nilalang na naghahangad ng materyal na pag-enjoy. Nagpupugay ako sa Panginoon, ang tagapagkaloob ng talino.”
The predominating Deity of the sun is another expansion of Nārāyaṇa, who is illuminating the entire universe. The Lord enters the hearts of all living entities as the Supersoul, and He gives them intelligence and fulfills their material desires. This is also confirmed in Bhagavad-gītā. Sarvasya cāhaṁ hṛdi sanniviṣṭaḥ. “I am sitting in everyone’s heart.” ( Bg. 15.15 )
This verse describes divine radiance (bharga) entering the purified heart and enabling one to distinguish the saintly, discerning “hamsa” nature from the greedy, materialistic “vulture” tendency.
While narrating Bharata’s inner purification, Śukadeva uses the imagery of Savitṛ’s supreme effulgence to indicate illuminating spiritual knowledge that arises in the mind and then firmly manifests in the cleansed heart.
