According to Śrīla Śrīdhara Svāmī, by meditation on the Supreme Lord one can overcome lust and other mental disturbances, and by following in the footsteps of great transcendentalists one can overcome hypocrisy, false pride and other types of mental imbalance.
This verse teaches that obstacles and impurities that cause inauspiciousness can be destroyed gradually through practices beginning with nāma-saṅkīrtana (chanting the Lord’s holy names), along with meditation on the Lord.
In the Uddhava-gītā section of Canto 11, Kṛṣṇa instructs Uddhava on practical spiritual disciplines; here He explains how lingering impurities are steadily removed through devotion, meditation, and guidance from realized masters.
Practice consistent daily remembrance of God, regularly chant the holy names (alone or in kīrtana), and model your conduct on authentic saintly teachers—expecting steady, step-by-step inner change rather than instant perfection.
