Guṇa-vibhāga: The Three Modes and the Path Beyond Them
यदा चित्तं प्रसीदेत इन्द्रियाणां च निर्वृति: । देहेऽभयं मनोऽसङ्गं तत् सत्त्वं विद्धि मत्पदम् ॥ १६ ॥
yadā cittaṁ prasīdeta indriyāṇāṁ ca nirvṛtiḥ dehe ’bhayaṁ mano-’saṅgaṁ tat sattvaṁ viddhi mat-padam
Kapag luminaw at naging payapa ang kamalayan at ang mga pandama’y humiwalay sa materya, nararanasan ang kawalang-takot sa loob ng katawan at ang di-pagkapit sa materyal na isip. Unawain ito bilang pag-iral ng sattva, kung saan may pagkakataong makilala Ako.
This verse says sattva is recognized by a serene heart, satisfied senses, fearlessness within the body, and a mind free from attachment.
In the Uddhava-gītā context, Krishna teaches how the modes shape consciousness; He highlights that pure goodness—marked by clarity and detachment—most closely reflects His transcendental position and leads one toward Him.
Cultivate clarity through sādhana (hearing, chanting, prayer), regulate the senses, and practice non-attachment; as the mind becomes peaceful and senses steady, fear and agitation naturally lessen.
