Vidya Category: {"primary_vidya":"Vastu","secondary_vidya":"Tantra","practical_application":"Door and sub-door proportional planning and the creation of a protective mandala-layout (Vighnasūdana) to avert obstacles in construction and ritual movement.","sutra_style":true}
Encyclopedic Reference: {"reference_type":"Definition","entry_title":"Vighnasūdana Mandala (Door–Subdoor Layout)","lookup_keywords":["dvāra-pramāṇa","upadvāra","padma-mita","koṣṭha","Vighnasūdana mandala"],"quick_summary":"The doorway is measured by a ‘padma’ unit; the sub-door is specified relative to the chamber. A mandala formed from the prescribed arrangement of door and sub-door is named Vighnasūdana, intended to destroy impediments."}
Concept: Spatial order at liminal points (doors) is treated as a practical theology: correct measure and diagrammatic protection reduce ‘vighna’ (obstruction) in both ritual and daily use.
Application: When designing entrances, apply canonical measures and incorporate protective layouts/markings to manage flow, security, and auspiciousness.

Related Themes: Agni Purana: mandala-lakṣaṇa and dvāra-vidhi passages around 317.10–317.11
It teaches Vastu-shastra procedure: fixing door and sub-door proportions (using the ‘padma’ module) and deriving a protective mandala layout termed Vighnasūdana to neutralize obstacles in a structure.
Beyond theology, it preserves applied architectural science—standardized measurement modules and apotropaic (protective) diagrammatics—showing how the Agni Purana functions as a multi-disciplinary manual spanning ritual, design, and building practice.
Correctly proportioned doorways and the Vighnasūdana mandala are presented as spiritually protective—meant to avert impediments (vighna), promote auspicious entry, and maintain ritual purity and harmony in the dwelling or temple.
