इति ते कथिता संख्या अर्थं चैषां श्रृणु द्विज । अस्मिन्नर्थे चेति हासं तव वक्ष्यामि यः पुरा
iti te kathitā saṃkhyā arthaṃ caiṣāṃ śrṛṇu dvija | asminnarthe ceti hāsaṃ tava vakṣyāmi yaḥ purā
ดังนี้เราได้กล่าวจำนวนของสิ่งเหล่านั้นแล้ว บัดนี้จงฟังความหมายเถิด โอ้ทวิชะพราหมณ์ และในความหมายนี้เอง เราจักเล่าเรื่องเก่าแก่ที่เป็นคติสอนใจ ซึ่งครั้งหนึ่งเคยก่อให้เกิดเสียงหัวเราะ
