āgataṃ gurumārādhyaṃ dṛṣṭvā yo dṛptavaccaret | dro hiṇastasya mūḍhasya prāyaścittaṃ vidhīyate

It teaches that arrogance toward the Guru obstructs Shiva’s grace; humility and reverence are required for the Guru’s instruction to mature into liberation-oriented knowledge (jñāna) and devotion (bhakti).
In Shaiva practice, correct Linga-worship is learned and sanctified through the Guru; disrespect to the Guru is treated as a serious fault that taints one’s worship, so expiation is advised to restore purity and receptivity to Shiva’s anugraha.
The verse points to prāyaścitta for Guru-apacāra (offense). Practically, one should seek forgiveness, renew Guru-sevā, and resume disciplined japa—especially the Panchākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”—with humility.
