Suta Goswami (narrating the Purana account of creation to the sages)
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Dakṣiṇāmūrti
Role: teaching
Cosmic Event: kaumāra/jñāna-stream emergence at the dawn of creation
It presents the earliest exemplars of the yogic path—mind-born sages who embody vairāgya (freedom from attachment) and amātsarya (freedom from envy). In Shaiva understanding, these inner qualities weaken pāśa (bondage) and make the soul fit for Shiva’s grace and liberation.
Though the verse describes creation, it highlights the inner purity required for effective Shiva-upāsanā. Linga worship and Saguna Shiva devotion bear fruit when accompanied by vītarāga and vimatsara—qualities that stabilize meditation and open the seeker to Pati (Shiva) rather than remaining entangled as paśu.
The implied practice is cultivation of yogic discipline—meditation with renunciation and non-envy. As a practical Shaiva takeaway, one may support this with daily japa of “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” and calm, non-competitive conduct, which directly counters matsara (envy) and strengthens inner steadiness.
