Suta Goswami (narrating to the sages at Naimisharanya)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Liṅgodbhava
Sthala Purana: This is the Liṅgodbhava motif: the immeasurable Liṅga whose base and summit cannot be found. The ‘pādamūla’ (root/base) search dramatizes Śiva’s ananta (limitlessness) and the concealment of His true measure from finite seekers.
Significance: Meditation on the anādi-ananta Liṅga cultivates humility and surrender—key dispositions for anugraha in Siddhānta.
Cosmic Event: Ananta-stambha (endless pillar/Liṅga) revelation motif—cosmic theophany
It highlights the immeasurable nature of Śiva as the Liṅga—beyond spatial limits—showing that even mighty powers cannot ‘reach the end’ of the Supreme (Pati); liberation comes through surrender and right knowledge, not conquest.
The Liṅga-form here is Saguna for devotion and contemplation, yet it points to Nirguna Śiva who is without beginning or end; worship of the Liṅga trains the mind to adore the Infinite through a sacred, graspable symbol.
Meditate on the Liṅga as limitless consciousness while offering simple upacāras (water, bilva leaves) with the Panchākṣarī—“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”—cultivating humility rather than spiritual pride.
