Shiva Form: Rudra
Type: rudram
It establishes the sacred architecture of the Shiva Purana by naming its major Saṃhitās, guiding seekers from foundational Shiva-upāsanā (Vidyeśvara) through narrative and devotion (Rudra) to the vision of Shiva’s countless forms (Śatarudra) and pilgrimage-based grace (Koṭirudra).
By pointing to the Vidyeśvara Saṃhitā first, the verse signals that Linga-centered Saguna worship and core disciplines (mantra, purity, devotion) are the entry-gate into the Purāṇa’s Shaiva path, which later expands into broader revelations of Rudra’s forms and holy sites.
The verse itself is classificatory, but it implicitly directs practice toward Vidyeśvara themes—regular Linga-pūjā with the Pañcākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya), supported by Shaiva markers like bhasma (tripuṇḍra) and rudrākṣa as taught in the foundational sections.
