(Mahāpātaka-varṇanam) — “Description of Great Sins and Their Consequences”
na bravīti ca yaḥ satyaṃ na pradānaṃ karoti ca | aśucirvā'śucisthāne yaḥ pravakti śṛṇoti ca

It teaches that Shaiva spirituality requires ethical foundations—truthfulness (satya), generosity (dāna), and purity (śauca). Without these, hearing or teaching sacred wisdom does not bear liberating fruit.
Linga-worship emphasizes both outer and inner sanctity. Approaching Saguna Shiva through the Linga is meant to purify the devotee; therefore, truth, charity, and a clean place/body-mind are presented as prerequisites for worship and scriptural listening.
Maintain śauca before katha and pūjā—clean body, clean space, and disciplined speech. As a Shaiva takeaway, prepare with simple purification and then worship with mantra-japa (e.g., Panchakshara) in a sanctified setting.
