Śiva establishes Nandī as the divinely appointed leader of His gaṇas, teaching that devotion (bhakti) and rightful consecration (abhiṣeka) align the community under Pati (the Lord) through His foremost servant—an expression of orderly, grace-filled Shaiva dharma.
In Saguna worship, honoring Śiva’s attendants—especially Nandī, who stands at the threshold of the sanctum—supports proper approach to the Liṅga: reverence, humility, and devotion before receiving Śiva’s grace.
It points to abhiṣeka (ceremonial anointing) performed with devotion; as a takeaway, devotees may begin Liṅga-pūjā by offering respectful salutations to Nandī and then proceeding with mantra-japa (such as the Pañcākṣarī, “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”).
