Sthala Purana: Pañcanada is declared ‘most dear to Śiva’ and ‘supremely purifying’ due to its proximity to Japeśvara; the sanctity is kṣetra-based (place-power) rather than Jyotirliṅga enumeration.
Significance: Residence/visit and bathing near Japeśvara at Pañcanada removes impurity (mala) and supports Śiva-bhakti practices (japa, pūjā).
It glorifies Pañcanada as a supremely purifying Shiva-tirtha, teaching that proximity to Shiva’s sacred presence (kshetra) supports inner cleansing and devotion, a key Shaiva path toward grace (anugraha) and liberation.
By praising the area near Japeśvara, it implies a locale of Saguna Shiva worship—typically centered on a Shiva-linga—where devotees gain merit through darśana, japa, and reverent pilgrimage in Shiva’s sanctified field.
Pilgrimage with Shiva-japa (especially the Panchakshara ‘Om Namaḥ Śivāya’), coupled with simple tirtha observances—purificatory bath, linga-darśana, and offering water—fits the verse’s emphasis on supreme sanctity near Japeśvara.
