Prelude
अवोचत्तान्विधिः श्रुत्वा तद्वचः सुविचिंत्य वै । नाहं करिष्ये तन्निंदां दुःखदां कहरां सदा
avocattānvidhiḥ śrutvā tadvacaḥ suviciṃtya vai | nāhaṃ kariṣye tanniṃdāṃ duḥkhadāṃ kaharāṃ sadā
เมื่อวิธิ (พรหมา) ได้ฟังถ้อยคำของพวกเขาแล้ว จึงใคร่ครวญอย่างลึกซึ้งและกล่าวว่า “เราจะไม่กระทำการติเตียนนั้นเลย เพราะเป็นเหตุแห่งทุกข์และความพินาศอยู่เสมอ”

It teaches that “nindā” (slander/censure) is intrinsically duḥkha-dā (sorrow-producing) and spiritually destructive; restraint of speech and purified intention support dharma and bhakti, aligning the devotee toward Shiva’s grace rather than karmic bondage.
Linga/Saguna Shiva worship emphasizes inner and outer purity—truthful, non-harming speech is part of that purity. Avoiding nindā protects devotion from ego-driven negativity that obscures reverence for Shiva and the sanctity of worship.
A practical takeaway is “vāṅ-niyama” (discipline of speech): before japa of Om Namaḥ Śivāya, consciously renounce harsh or slanderous speech, then perform mantra-japa with a calm, non-injuring mind.
