(Avadhūteśvara-līlā) — Śiva Tests Indra’s Pride on the Way to Kailāsa
bṛhaspatiruvāca | dīnanātha mahādeva praṇatantava pādayoḥ | samuddhara ca māṃ tattvaṃ krodhaṃ na praṇayaṃ kuru
Brihaspati
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Mahadeva
Significance: A classic anugraha-prārthanā: the bound soul asks to be ‘lifted up’ into tattva (right knowledge). In Siddhānta terms, this is the plea for removal of pāśa (mala/māyā/karma) through Śiva’s grace.
Type: stotra
Role: liberating
It highlights śaraṇāgati (surrender): the devotee bows at Śiva’s feet, asking to be raised into tattva (right knowledge of the Supreme) and protected from the consequences of anger and divine displeasure—pointing to Śiva’s grace as the liberating power.
The prayer is addressed to Mahādeva as a compassionate personal Lord (Saguna Śiva). In Linga-worship, the devotee similarly approaches Śiva as accessible mercy itself—seeking purification, forgiveness, and establishment in truth through devotion.
A practical takeaway is repentance and surrender during Śiva-pūjā: offer water and bilva to the Liṅga, apply tripuṇḍra (bhasma), and repeat “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” while praying to be established in tattva and freed from krodha (anger).
