Tattva Level: pasha
Sthala Purana: Not a Jyotirliṅga episode; the verse narrates Lakṣmī’s emergence during Samudra-manthana, a cosmological event sometimes recalled in temple lore as a paradigm of divine manifestation from the ocean of consciousness.
Shakti Form: Lalitā
Role: nurturing
Offering: pushpa
Cosmic Event: Samudra-manthana (churning of the Ocean of Milk)
The verse highlights how divine powers manifest during cosmic turning points: Śrī (prosperity, auspiciousness, and royal fortune) arises from the churning, reminding devotees that worldly and heavenly splendor is a produced, contingent boon—while Shaiva Siddhānta ultimately points beyond such gifts to liberation through Śiva’s grace.
By describing a deity’s manifest emergence (a saguna revelation) during Samudra Manthana, it supports the Purāṇic principle that the Divine can be approached through tangible forms and stories. In Shaiva practice, the Liṅga is the chief saguna focus that steadies devotion and leads the mind toward Śiva as the supreme reality.
A practical takeaway is to worship with auspicious remembrance (maṅgala-smaraṇa): begin japa of the Pañcākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” and offer simple abhiṣeka to the Śiva-liṅga, cultivating detachment—seeking Śiva’s grace rather than merely the ‘Śrī’ of prosperity.
