Rudrāvatāras
sadaivāstu maheśāna sarvalekhasahāyakaḥ | yathā daityakṛtā bādhā na bādheta surānprabho
Suta Goswami (narrating the prayer within the Śatarudrasaṃhitā context)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Type: stotra
The verse expresses śaraṇāgati (taking refuge) in Maheśvara as the supreme protector whose grace removes pīḍā (affliction) and vighna (obstruction), affirming Shiva as Pati—the sovereign Lord who safeguards dharma and the divine order.
It approaches Shiva in a personal, Saguna manner—“Maheśāna, Prabho”—seeking active protection. In Linga worship, devotees similarly pray for Shiva’s anugraha (grace) to dissolve hostile forces (inner and outer) and secure auspicious completion of sacred duties.
A practical takeaway is vighna-śānti japa: repeating the Panchakshara mantra “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” with a protective intent, ideally alongside Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and Rudrāksha, dedicating all actions and ‘records/undertakings’ to Shiva for unobstructed completion.
