Nandīśvara (Nandi)
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Mahadeva
Significance: Model for pilgrims: departing after darśana/śravaṇa while ‘smaraṇa’ of Śaṅkara continues—considered a portable tīrtha in Śaiva devotion.
Role: nurturing
It highlights Shiva-smaraṇa (remembrance of Śaṅkara) as a direct cause of inner upliftment: even the devas attain “supreme bliss” by hearing Shiva’s glory and holding Him in the heart, reflecting the Shaiva emphasis on devotion to Pati (Shiva) as liberating and purifying.
Remembering “Śaṅkara” points to Saguna upāsanā—contemplating Shiva’s gracious form and qualities. In practice, this naturally aligns with Linga-worship, where the devotee departs from the shrine carrying the recollection of Shiva, sustaining devotion beyond the ritual moment.
The takeaway is daily Shiva-smaraṇa: after hearing scripture or completing pūjā, keep mentally repeating Shiva’s name (e.g., the Panchākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) and maintain joyful remembrance as an ongoing sādhana.
