Tattva Level: pashu
Cosmic Event: Psychological ‘bondage’ moment: devas confront the possibility of paśutva, mirroring the universal condition of souls under mala/māyā.
The verse highlights the Shaiva Siddhanta concern of paśutva—living as a bound soul under pāśa (bondage). Hearing Śiva’s decisive words, beings recognize their vulnerability to bondage and thus the need for Śiva (Pati) as the liberating Lord.
Fear of paśutva turns the mind toward refuge in Saguna Śiva—worship of the Liṅga as the accessible form of Pati. Devotion and surrender to Śiva’s grace are implied as the antidote to bondage.
A practical takeaway is to seek Śiva’s grace through japa of the Pañcākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya), along with purifying disciplines like Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and Rudrākṣa as supportive Shaiva observances to overcome paśa-bound tendencies.
