Cosmic Event: kalpa-scale time and micro-time units (kāṣṭhā→anulava) framing cosmic order
By listing subtle units of time, the Purana highlights kāla as a measurable power within creation, while Shaiva Siddhanta affirms that Lord Shiva (Pati) is the ruler of time yet remains beyond it—inviting the seeker to turn from fleeting moments toward the Timeless Lord.
The Linga signifies Shiva’s presence that pervades all levels of reality, including time. Remembering that even the smallest instants are under Shiva’s governance supports Saguna worship—seeing Shiva as Kāla-niyantā (the ordainer of time)—and leads the mind toward the nirguṇa truth of Shiva’s transcendence.
A practical takeaway is nimeṣa-japa: using the blink or breath as a gentle count while repeating the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya), cultivating awareness that each moment is offered to Shiva and not wasted in forgetfulness.
