शिवशङ्खचूडयुद्धवर्णनम् / Description of the Battle between Śiva and Śaṅkhacūḍa
शंखचूडो महावीरश्शरांश्चिक्षेप दारुणान् । चिच्छेद शंकरस्तान्वै लीलया स्वशरोत्करैः
śaṃkhacūḍo mahāvīraśśarāṃścikṣepa dāruṇān | ciccheda śaṃkarastānvai līlayā svaśarotkaraiḥ
ศังขจูฑะผู้กล้าหาญยิ่งยิงระดมศรอันน่ากลัว แต่พระศังกรทรงตัดทำลายด้วยห่าศรของพระองค์เองอย่างง่ายดายดุจการละเล่น
Sūta Gosvāmin (narrating to the sages at Naimiṣāraṇya)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Tripurāntaka
It portrays Śiva as Pati (the Lord) whose power is effortless—what appears fearsome to beings is, for Śaṅkara, merely līlā; this points to the Shaiva Siddhanta vision that the Lord alone can sever the incoming “arrows” of karma and bondage.
The verse highlights Saguna Śiva—active, protective, and responsive in the world. Linga-worship trains the devotee to see this same Lord as the refuge who intercepts suffering and grants grace, even while remaining transcendent.
A practical takeaway is japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) with bhakti, visualizing Śaṅkara cutting down inner disturbances (anger, fear, desire) like arrows; optionally accompany with Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and Rudrākṣa as reminders of Śiva’s protection.
