(Description of the Dharma/Conduct of the Bhūta-Tripura) — Chapter 3

Lord Shiva (Rudra), speaking within the Yuddhakhaṇḍa battle context
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Rudra
Role: destructive
The verse contrasts devotion (bhakti) with hostility toward Rudra: turning away from Śiva is portrayed as spiritual blindness that culminates in destruction, while alignment with Śiva implies protection and right orientation toward liberation.
In the Shiva Purana, Saguna Śiva (Rudra) actively upholds dharma; this verse reflects that those lacking devotion and opposing Him are ‘burnt to ashes,’ echoing Rudra’s fiery, purifying power also symbolized in Linga worship through offerings and reverence.
The takeaway is to cultivate steady bhakti through Shiva-nāma japa (especially the Pañcākṣarī, “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) and disciplined worship; the mention of “bhasma” also resonates with Tripuṇḍra/bhasma-dhāraṇa as a Shaiva reminder of purification and impermanence.
