FAQs

The verse emphasizes Śiva’s supreme lordship (Pati) as the source of divine governance: even Viṣṇu acts under Śiva’s ājñā for the welfare and protection of the cosmos, showing that cosmic order is sustained by Śiva’s will.

It supports Saguna Śiva devotion by portraying Śiva as the commanding, personal Lord who directs the gods for trailokya-rakṣaṇa; the Liṅga tradition similarly worships Śiva as the accessible form through which his sovereignty and grace operate in the world.

A practical takeaway is to cultivate śaraṇāgati (surrender) to Śiva’s ājñā through daily japa of the Pañcākṣarī—“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”—and offering vibhūti (Tripuṇḍra) as a reminder that one’s actions should align with Śiva’s divine order.
