Offering: dhupa
Cosmic Event: Samudra-manthana viṣa-dhāraṇa is implicitly recalled by the epithet Nīlakaṇṭha (mythic-cosmic memory).
The verse unites devotion and metaphysics: Shiva is praised both as the intimate personal Lord (Pārvatīnātha) and as the transcendent Supreme Self (Paramātman). In Shaiva Siddhānta terms, it points to Pati (Shiva) as the ultimate refuge who grants grace and liberation.
The salutations address Shiva through recognizable saguna epithets—Maheshvara, Rudra, Nīlakaṇṭha—supporting form-based worship (including Liṅga worship) as a valid means to approach the same Supreme Reality described as Paramātman.
A simple practice is japa of reverential salutations (namas) to Shiva—mentally visualizing Nīlakaṇṭha and reciting with devotion. It can be paired with Panchākṣarī remembrance (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) as an inner offering of surrender.
