Devas’ Rout, Viṣṇu’s Counterattack, and Jalandhara’s Wrath
jalaṃdhara uvāca | yadi bhāvuka tuṣṭo'si varame tandadasva me | madbhaginyā mayā sārdhaṃ madgehe sagaṇo vasa
Jalandhara
Tattva Level: pashu
The verse highlights the motif of seeking a “vara” (boon) when a revered being is pleased; Shaiva thought cautions that boons driven by worldly desire can entangle one further, whereas devotion aligned to Dharma supports inner purification.
Requesting a divine presence to “dwell” with gaṇas reflects Saguna engagement—relating to Shiva as present and approachable; in Linga worship, the devotee similarly invites Shiva’s grace into a consecrated space through pūjā and hospitality (upacāras).
The practical takeaway is bhakti expressed as sacred hospitality—maintaining a pure worship-space, offering upacāras, and sustaining japa (such as the Pañcākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) to invite steadiness of Shiva-consciousness in the home.
