FAQs

It is a śaraṇāgati (surrender) prayer asking Pati (Lord Śiva) for steadiness in dharma and protection from inner and outer बाधक-s (obstructions), expressing that well-being and freedom from fear ultimately arise from Shiva’s grace.

The verse approaches Shiva as Jagannātha—Saguna Shiva who hears prayers and grants protection. In Linga worship, such petitions are offered with water, bilva leaves, and mantra, recognizing the Linga as the accessible form of the transcendent Lord.

A practical takeaway is daily Shiva-bhakti with japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) and a protective sankalpa during Linga abhiṣeka; it aligns well with Mahāśivarātri vrata, bhasma (tripuṇḍra) remembrance, and steady meditation on Shiva as the remover of fear.
