Description of the Origin/Manifestation of Viṣṇu
mahāpralayakāle ca naṣṭe sthāvarajaṃgame | āsīttamomayaṃ sarvamanarkagrahatārakam
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pasha
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Cosmic Event: mahāpralaya
It depicts mahāpralaya as the withdrawal of names and forms into tamas, highlighting that the cosmos is not ultimate; the Shaiva view points beyond this darkness to Pati (Shiva) as the ever-present ground of consciousness who alone enables re-manifestation and liberation.
When sun, planets, and stars are absent, no external support remains—symbolically directing the seeker to Shiva as the inner light. Linga worship centers on that timeless reality (Pati) who remains when all visible markers of the universe dissolve.
Meditate on Shiva as the light beyond darkness by steady japa of the Panchakshara—“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”—and contemplate the impermanence of the world during pralaya to strengthen vairagya and devotion.
