Suta Goswami

Tattva Level: pasha

Shiva Form: Mahādeva

Sthala Purana: Not a Jyotirliṅga account; the verse introduces a curse (śāpa) and the desire for its removal—typical Purāṇic mechanism explaining why certain beings become bound and how grace operates through intermediaries.

Significance: Teaches humility before realized sages and the possibility of śāpa-uddhāra through proper reverence and alignment with dharma—seen as a form of Śiva’s mediated grace.

FAQs

It highlights śaraṇāgati (surrender): humility, reverence, and taking refuge at the Lord’s feet are presented as the means by which the burden of a curse—symbolic of karmic bondage—can be removed through Shiva’s grace (anugraha).

Clasping the Lord’s feet expresses Saguna-bhakti—approaching Shiva in a personal, worshipful form. In Linga worship, the same attitude is embodied through prostration, offering, and prayer for purification and release from pāśa (bondage).

A simple practice is namaskāra with heartfelt repentance and prayer before Shiva (or the Linga), coupled with japa of the Pañcākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya,” seeking inner correction and the lifting of negative karmic effects.
