Sūta Gosvāmin
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Īśāna
Significance: Frames Śiva worship as both mantra (Sāman) and vrata (ethical-ritual discipline), emphasizing grace (anugraha) through sustained observance.
Type: stotra
It affirms that both sacred sound (Vedic hymn) and disciplined observance (vrata) are valid means to gain the sought spiritual fruit—ultimately Shiva’s grace—when performed with right intention and devotion.
Sāman-chanting and devavrata are outward, Saguna-oriented supports: they purify the devotee and focus the mind on Shiva as worshipful Lord (often adored as the Linga), making the heart fit for receiving his anugraha (grace).
Adopt a Shiva-centered vrata (fasting, purity, regulated conduct) and accompany it with reverent chanting—such as Vedic hymns or, in Shaiva practice, steady japa of the Panchākṣarī ("Om Namaḥ Śivāya").
