FAQs

It teaches that although Shiva is one (non-dual in essence), He can be understood through distinguishable aspects—like limbs of one body—so devotees can contemplate His powers and attain clarity in devotion and knowledge.

Linga worship centers on the One Lord beyond limitation, yet approached through sacred signs, names, and attributes. This verse legitimizes that approach: the One is worshipped through discernible aspects without denying His essential unity.

A practical takeaway is aṅga-bhāvanā (contemplation of the Lord’s aspects) alongside japa of the Panchakshara “Om Namaḥ Śivāya,” mentally honoring Shiva’s divine excellences while maintaining awareness of His oneness.
