Viṣṇu’s Hymn and the Petition for Śiva–Satī’s Protection
शम्भुरुवाच । हे विष्णो सर्वभक्तेश कथमात्मा विधिर्मम । लक्ष्यते भिन्न एवायं प्रत्यक्षेणाग्रतः स्थितः
śambhuruvāca | he viṣṇo sarvabhakteśa kathamātmā vidhirmama | lakṣyate bhinna evāyaṃ pratyakṣeṇāgrataḥ sthitaḥ
ศัมภูตรัสว่า “โอ้พระวิษณุ ผู้เป็นเจ้าแห่งภักตะทั้งปวง ไฉนธรรมบัญญัติและสภาวะภายในอันเป็นแก่นแท้ของเราจึงถูกเห็นว่าแตกต่าง? เพราะผู้นี้เองปรากฏชัด ยืนอยู่ตรงหน้าเราโดยประจักษ์”

The verse highlights the Shaiva insight that the Supreme (Pati, Śiva) is one and self-luminous, yet due to standpoint and divine play the same reality can be “seen as different.” It points seekers from conceptual difference toward direct recognition (pratyakṣa) of the one Lord.
By stressing “standing directly before” (pratyakṣeṇāgrataḥ), the verse supports Saguna worship—Śiva becomes accessible and evident through form, presence, and grace. In Linga-worship, the devotee approaches the manifest sign of the formless, dissolving the idea of separation through steady devotion.
The takeaway is pratyakṣa-anubhava through bhakti: daily Linga-pūjā with Panchākṣarī japa (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) and contemplative inquiry into the “one reality” behind appearances; optionally supported by Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and Rudrākṣa as Shaiva disciplines.
