FAQs

This verse is a devotional confession that Shiva (Pati) is the ultimate source and inner ruler of all beings—both the moving and the unmoving—so liberation begins with surrender (namaḥ) and recognition of His supreme lordship (Pareśa, Maheśa).

By addressing Shiva as Bhagavān, Puruṣa, and Maheśa, the Devas approach the transcendent Lord through praise—this same reverence is ritually expressed in Liṅga worship, where the formless Supreme is honored through a sacred, accessible form (saguṇa upāsanā).

Practice stuti and japa with the attitude of namaḥ (humble surrender): mentally offer salutations to Maheśa as the indwelling Puruṣa while repeating a Shiva mantra such as “Om Namaḥ Śivāya,” and contemplate Him as the source of all creation (carācaram).
