garvāpahārī lokeśassarvadā dīnavatsalaḥ | etādṛśo hi yaḥ svāmī svaputraṃ manyase hi tam

Role: teaching
It teaches that Shiva, as Lokesha (Lord of all), dissolves ego (garva) and pours grace on the humble; treating Him as a mere worldly relation is a failure to recognize His supreme, liberating lordship (Pati).
The verse directs the devotee to see Shiva as the universal Master rather than a limited social identity; Linga/Saguna worship supports this by focusing devotion on Shiva’s sovereign presence and grace beyond family pride and status.
A practical takeaway is daily japa of the Panchakshara (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) with an attitude of humility, offering worship without ego—optionally with Tripundra (bhasma) and Rudraksha as reminders of Shiva’s grace and ego-dissolving power.
