विष्णोर्दर्शनं स्तुतिश्च

Viṣṇu’s Manifestation and Brahmā’s Hymn

शंकरं सुरसामान्यं मत्वा द्रोहं करोषि हि । सुबुद्धिर्विगता तेद्याविर्भूता कुमतिस्तथा

śaṃkaraṃ surasāmānyaṃ matvā drohaṃ karoṣi hi | subuddhirvigatā tedyāvirbhūtā kumatistathā

เมื่อเห็นพระศังกระเป็นเพียงเทพธรรมดาท่ามกลางเหล่าเทวะ ท่านย่อมกระทำความล่วงเกินแท้จริง วันนี้ปัญญาอันถูกต้องของท่านได้เสื่อมไป และความเห็นผิดอันหลงทางได้บังเกิดในใจท่านแล้ว

The verse warns that reducing Śiva to the level of an ordinary deva is a fall from right discernment; such misapprehension becomes an offence (aparādha) that blocks devotion and liberation, since Śiva is Pati—the supreme Lord and inner ruler.

Liṅga and Saguna-Śiva worship train the devotee to see Śiva as the supreme, all-pervading reality manifesting graciously in an accessible form; the verse rejects a merely comparative ‘one god among many’ attitude that undermines śraddhā in Śiva’s lordship.

The takeaway is to avoid Śiva-aparādha and cultivate śivabhakti through japa of the Pañcākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) with reverence, along with traditional Śaiva marks like bhasma (tripuṇḍra) and Rudrākṣa as supports for right understanding.
