FAQs

It teaches that śravaṇa (devout listening) to the pure and auspicious life-account of Śiva and Pārvatī, performed with inner and outer purity (śauca), becomes a direct means of Śiva’s grace—bringing success in righteous aims and supporting liberation-oriented devotion.

In Shaiva practice, devotion to Saguna Śiva is nourished not only by pūjā of the Liṅga but also by śravaṇa of Śiva-kathā. Hearing the divine deeds of Śiva-Śivā (Pārvatī) stabilizes bhakti and aligns the devotee’s actions with auspiciousness (śivam), which is the living spirit of Liṅga-worship.

The verse specifically recommends śauca (purity) followed by śravaṇa (listening) of Śiva-Pārvatī carita. Practically, one may bathe, maintain a clean space, apply vibhūti (Tripuṇḍra), and listen/recite with remembrance of the Pañcākṣarī mantra “Om Namaḥ Śivāya.”
